About Me
Hey there! I'm Katie Lloyd and I'm a Stay at Home Mom to our five year old and three year old!
Oh, and I have a serious love of photography.
I took my first photo when I was two years old, but didn't delve into photography until I was in college. There, I worked with a film SLR and in black and white only. I learned how to develop negatives and process my own prints. It was an incredible learning experience, but I have to say I'm thankful for the digital age!
In 2009 I joined up with The Mommytography 365 Project. The goal was to help moms become better photographers simply through constant use of our cameras. It worked like a charm! For all of 2009 I used a Sony Cyber-Shot point and shoot. If you're in the market for a good p&s, I highly recommend this one!
You can see my painfully ugly beginner shots from the 2009 365 Project here.
I continued with the 365 Project in 2010, but upgraded my camera to a Nikon D3000! You can see those much better shots here.
Someday I want to pursue photography at a professional level. I don't know if I'd classify myself as a professional...yet. But my hobby is now self sustaining and Katie Lloyd Photography is a legal business!
My fine art photography is sold at my Etsy shop: KatieLloydPhoto and if you live in the Overland Park, Kansas area I am available for portrait work!
I hope you'll continue to join me on my journey of trial and error!

Cameras & Lenses
Nikon D7000
Nikon D3000
Nikon D7000
Nikon D3000
Sigma 70-300mm
{A note about this lens: From my own experience and based on reviews I've read, it's almost a certainty that this lens will break at about the 1 year mark. Mine broke at around 9 or 10 months, so it was still under warranty. My auto focus just stopped altogether. If I had it to do it again, I'd have saved my money and bought a better lens. The quality is actually pretty good for the price paid. I have shaky hands so my macros aren't very good when I hand hold it. They are ok when I use my tripod.
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D
{A note about this lens: It does not auto focus with the D3000, D40 and some others. However, it is still my favorite lens!! And I highly recommend it even if you have one of these bodies that doesn't support the AF feature.}

If you're looking for something just for personal use and are willing to take a gamble on whether or not it will break under warranty (I have no idea how much my repair would have cost without the warranty) then it's a very versatile camera. If, however, you're looking for higher quality images to sell, then I'd say save up for a better lens.}
